Abuja Court Sentences Ex-Power Minister Saleh Mamman To 75 Years Over N33.8bn Fraud

A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to 75 years imprisonment after convicting him in a N33.8 billion fraud and money laundering case.

Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment after finding Mamman guilty on all 12 counts filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The court sentenced the former minister to seven years imprisonment on 10 counts, while counts four and five attracted separate jail terms of three years and two years respectively.

Justice Omotosho ruled that the sentences would run consecutively, meaning the prison terms would be served one after another. The court also stated that there would be no option of fine, except for count four, which carries a N10 million fine option.

The court further ordered the forfeiture of foreign currencies recovered from Mamman, as well as four Abuja properties linked to him.

The conviction is regarded as one of the most high-profile anti-corruption judgments involving a former cabinet member in recent years.
