Adeleke Appeals To Tinubu To End Osun Violence, Reaffirms Support For 2027 Re-Election

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the rising political violence in the state, while reaffirming his support for the President’s 2027 re-election bid.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Olorunda Local Government Area on Monday, Adeleke warned against a repeat of the political violence that followed the 1983 elections in the South-West, urging the President to ensure a peaceful governorship election on August 15.

The governor, who is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform, said the people of Osun would not accept intimidation or electoral manipulation.

Adeleke noted that the Accord Party and the people of Osun had already endorsed Tinubu for a second term as president and questioned why political violence was continuing in the state.

“President Tinubu, you asked us to endorse your re-election, which we have done. Why then are they killing our people?” he said.

He urged the President to prevent a recurrence of the violence that engulfed the South-West after the disputed 1983 elections, describing the period as one the country must never experience again.

The governor also accused the police of failing to act impartially and called on the Federal Government to direct security agencies to focus on tackling kidnappers and other criminal elements.

“I am the Chief Security Officer of Osun State, and I am crying out to the President so he will not say I did not speak,” Adeleke said.

He further appealed to Tinubu to caution his predecessor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, over the political situation in the state.

According to Adeleke, Osun residents deserve a peaceful and credible election free from violence and intimidation.

He later reiterated the appeal in a post on X, urging Tinubu to intervene to protect lives and safeguard democracy in the state.

The governor stressed that democracy can only thrive when citizens are allowed to freely choose their leaders, calling for a free, fair and peaceful governorship election.

Political tensions have continued to rise in Osun ahead of the August 15 governorship poll, with rival parties intensifying campaigns across the state.
