Anthony Joshua Involved in a Fatal Accident, Two confirmed Dead

Promoters of British heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua have confirmed the identities of two members of his team who died in a fatal road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

In a statement issued on Monday, Matchroom Boxing said the victims were Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, both long-standing members of Joshua’s inner circle and close personal friends.

The promoters confirmed that Joshua sustained injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital for medical checks. They said the boxer is in a stable condition and will remain in Nigeria under medical observation.

The accident reportedly occurred near Lagos when the vehicle conveying Joshua and members of his team collided with a stationary truck while overtaking at high speed. Joshua was rescued from the wreckage, while two other occupants of the vehicle reportedly escaped unharmed.

Tributes have continued to pour in from across the boxing world, with fighters and promoters describing Ghami and Ayodele as dedicated professionals and loyal figures within Joshua’s camp.

Ghami had worked with Joshua for more than a decade as his strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele, popularly known as Latz, served as his personal trainer and close confidant.

President Bola Tinubu also spoke with Joshua to express condolences and wish him a speedy recovery, describing the incident as a tragic loss during the festive season.

Matchroom Boxing has requested privacy for the families of the deceased and all those affected by the tragedy.
