Atiku Says Obasanjo’s Criticism Stems From Opposition To Third-Term Agenda

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent criticism of him is rooted in his opposition to Obasanjo’s alleged third-term agenda while in office.

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said the former president’s remarks were another attempt to rewrite history.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said he watched Obasanjo’s recent interview with “profound sadness, but not anger,” describing it as the reaction of “a man who has allowed personal resentment to cloud historical truth.”

According to Atiku, the disagreement between both men began when he opposed Obasanjo’s alleged bid to secure a third term in office.

He insisted that he remains proud of the position he took at the time and has no regrets about resisting what he described as an unconstitutional move.

Atiku also maintained that no amount of criticism or personal bitterness could erase his role in opposing the third-term agenda or his contributions to Obasanjo’s political journey.
