Ayra Starr Makes Hollywood Debut In ‘Children of Blood and Bone’ First Teaser

Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has made her Hollywood acting debut, appearing in the first official teaser for the highly anticipated fantasy film Children of Blood and Bone, set for release in January 2027.

The teaser, released ahead of the film’s official trailer, offers audiences a first look at Ayra Starr in her debut movie role alongside a star-studded cast that includes Idris Elba, Damson Idris, Viola Davis, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, Tosin Cole, Richard Mofe-Damijo and Thuso Mbedu.

Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, Children of Blood and Bone is scheduled for an exclusive theatrical and IMAX release on January 15, 2027.

The preview features behind-the-scenes footage from the production, giving fans an early glimpse of the cast and crew at work while showcasing Ayra Starr in costume. The teaser is accompanied by Tems’ hit single Me & U, which forms part of the film’s soundtrack.

The movie is based on Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling 2018 novel, the first instalment of the Legacy of Orïsha trilogy. It follows the journey of Zélie Adebola, a young woman determined to restore magic to the kingdom of Orïsha after it was wiped out by a ruling monarchy.

Speaking in an earlier interview with CBS, Ayra Starr described her transition from music to acting as both challenging and rewarding.

“This is my first movie ever. I’m used to being a singer and diva on set, but with a movie, it’s not about you. You have to be on set on time. It made me get used to military time and working hard. I respect actors so much more now. Their stamina is impeccable,” she said.

Produced by Paramount Pictures, Children of Blood and Bone brings together a blend of African and international actors in the adaptation of one of the most acclaimed young adult fantasy novels of recent years. The film also features executive music supervision by Tems, with music consulting by Burna Boy.
