Canada Wins South Africa To Reach World Cup Round Of 16

Canada secured a place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup with a dramatic 1-0 victory over South Africa, courtesy of a stoppage-time winner from Stephen Eustàquio.

The decisive goal came in the first minute of added time at Los Angeles Stadium in Inglewood, California, and was confirmed after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review, sealing Canada’s progression to the knockout stage.

South Africa enjoyed more possession throughout the contest but struggled to convert their dominance into clear-cut chances. Canada, meanwhile, proved more clinical in attack, registering 14 shots, including seven on target, compared to South Africa’s six attempts, with only two testing the goalkeeper.

South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams produced a string of impressive saves to keep his side in the game before Eustàquio eventually broke the deadlock late on.

The victory sends the tournament co-hosts into the Round of 16, where they will face the winner of the clash between the Netherlands and Morocco.

For South Africa, the defeat brings an end to their World Cup campaign, while Canada continue their quest for a memorable run on home soil.
