Chelsea FC have dismissed head coach Liam Rosenior less than four months after he signed a long-term deal at Stamford Bridge.
The 41-year-old, who took over in January following the departure of Enzo Maresca, leaves after just 23 matches in charge. During that period, he recorded 10 wins, 10 losses, and three draws.
Rosenior’s exit follows a sharp decline in form, with Chelsea losing seven of their last eight matches, including five consecutive Premier League defeats. The club’s ownership group, BlueCo, reportedly made the decision after internal discussions over the team’s recent performances.
The sacking comes just days before Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final clash, underlining the urgency behind the move.
In a statement, the club thanked Rosenior for his professionalism but acknowledged that results had fallen below expectations, prompting the decision to part ways.
Assistant coach Calum McFarlane has been appointed interim head coach until the end of the season, supported by the existing backroom staff.
Rosenior’s final game in charge was a heavy 3-0 defeat to Brighton, marking Chelsea’s fifth straight league loss without scoring, a run which has not been seen since 1912.
Speaking after the match, Rosenior criticised both himself and his players, describing the performance as unacceptable and calling for greater responsibility within the squad.
Chelsea now begin the search for a new long-term manager as they aim to stabilise results, push for European qualification, and remain competitive in the FA Cup.
