Chris Brown Admits Role In London Nightclub Fight, Faces Sentencing In October

American singer Chris Brown has admitted taking part in a violent fight at a London nightclub, ending part of a criminal case against him.

Brown pleaded guilty to affray- a UK offence involving violent or threatening behaviour that causes fear to the public- during a hearing at Southwark Crown Court on Friday. Prosecutors later dropped the more serious charges of assault, attempted grievous bodily harm and possession of a weapon. He is due to be sentenced on October 26.

Brown’s vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, popularly known as Hoody Baby, also admitted his role in the fight. The more serious charges against him were also withdrawn.

The incident happened at the Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district on February 19, 2023.

According to police and prosecutors, CCTV footage showed Brown hitting a man on the head with a bottle before he and Akinlolu chased, punched and kicked the victim as he tried to escape. The victim was reportedly left injured and taken to hospital.

The Metropolitan Police described the attack as an unprovoked act of violence, while the Crown Prosecution Service said such behaviour had no place in society and stressed that no one is above the law.

Judge Tony Baumgartner allowed Brown to remain on bail ahead of sentencing. Under his bail conditions, he is permitted to travel for his world tour but must return to the UK before his sentencing date on October 26th.

Brown arrived at court wearing a beige suit and baseball cap, where fans gathered outside to show their support.

The singer, known for hits including Kiss kiss, Loyal, No guidance and With You, was previously convicted in 2009 for assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, and later said the incident would “haunt” him forever.
