Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote has been named among TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2026, joining a global list of leaders shaping politics, business, and culture.
Dangote appears alongside prominent figures including U.S. President Donald Trump, Chinese leader Xi Jinping, and Pope Leo XIV, reflecting the diverse influence of individuals across global sectors.
The annual TIME100 list, released on April 15, recognises individuals whose ideas, leadership, and impact are shaping the future worldwide. This marks Dangote’s second appearance on the list, having first been honoured in 2014.
In 2026, he is the only Nigerian featured, earning recognition in the “Titans” category for his role in driving industrialisation across Africa. Other honourees in business and technology include leaders such as Sundar Pichai and Neal Mohan.
Through the Dangote Group, Dangote has led major investments in cement, agriculture, energy, and infrastructure, significantly reducing import dependence and creating jobs across the continent.
TIME highlighted his long-term vision of building globally competitive African industries using local resources, noting that his recent investments in energy and manufacturing underscore a commitment to economic transformation.
Beyond business, his philanthropic efforts through the Aliko Dangote Foundation were also recognised, particularly in healthcare, education, and economic empowerment initiatives.
Speaking on the group’s future direction, Dangote outlined plans under its Vision 2030 roadmap to expand into new sectors and global markets, with the ambition of growing the business into a $100 billion enterprise.
The 2026 TIME100 list reflects increasing global recognition of African leadership, with Dangote’s inclusion highlighting the continent’s growing influence in shaping economic and development narratives.
