Dua Lipa Files $15m Lawsuit Against Samsung Over Alleged Unauthorised Image Use

British pop star Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the electronics company of using her image without permission in a television marketing campaign.

According to court documents filed at the Central District of California on Friday, the singer alleged that her likeness appeared on television packaging and promotional materials used by the company last year.

The lawsuit claims Lipa only discovered the alleged unauthorised use after the campaign had already been launched. Her legal team said requests for the company to stop using the image were ignored.

“Ms. Lipa’s face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without consideration, and as to which she had no say, control, or input whatsoever,” the filing stated.

The suit further argued that the campaign falsely suggested the singer had endorsed Samsung’s products despite no formal agreement existing between both parties.

According to the complaint, Lipa owns the copyright to the image used in the campaign, which was reportedly taken backstage at the Austin City Limits Music Festival in 2024.

The filing also cited alleged social media reactions from consumers who believed the singer was associated with the brand. One user reportedly claimed they purchased a television after seeing the image used in the promotion.

Lipa’s legal team described the singer as highly selective with commercial partnerships and said the alleged unauthorised campaign could damage the value of her personal brand.

The case includes claims relating to copyright infringement, trademark protection, California publicity rights laws, and violations of the federal Lanham Act.

Samsung has yet to publicly respond to the lawsuit.
