The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recorded over 4.1 million registrations in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, with young Nigerians making up the majority of new voters.
In its latest update, the commission disclosed that a total of 4,121,835 eligible Nigerians had completed both online and physical registration as of April 28, 2026.
Of this figure, 2,459,339 applicants completed online pre-registration, while 1,662,496 finalised their registration through physical verification.
INEC also reported a higher participation rate among women, with 2,280,341 female registrants (55.32 percent), compared to 1,841,494 males (44.68 percent).
A breakdown by age shows that youths between 18 and 34 years accounted for the largest share, with 2,836,995 registrations, representing 68.83 percent of the total.
Middle-aged applicants aged 35 to 49 recorded 875,939 registrations (21.25 percent), while 864,270 elderly citizens aged 50 to 69 made up 8.84 percent.
The commission noted that the figures remain provisional, pending data clean-up through claims and objections, as well as verification using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).
The ongoing exercise is part of efforts to expand voter participation ahead of future elections, with INEC emphasising the importance of accurate data and inclusive representation in the electoral process.
