Popular Twitch streamer and internet personality Kai Cenat has returned to Lagos for his second visit to Nigeria, renewing focus on his long-promised Makoko Children School and Orphanage Home project.

Cenat arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Wednesday to a lively reception that included a live band, drawing widespread attention on social media.

The visit comes nearly a year after his first trip to Nigeria, during which he pledged $5 million towards building a school for children in Makoko, a waterfront community often described as Lagos’ “floating slum.” Progress on the project initially faced setbacks due to land acquisition challenges, regulatory requirements and the complexities of constructing within Makoko’s water-based environment.

As a result, the project site was later relocated to Yaba, a more stable area of the city. Cenat has maintained that children from Makoko will continue to benefit from the initiative through free access to education once the school is fully operational.

During his Mafiathon 3 livestream, Cenat disclosed that more than $1 million had already been raised for the project. He said funds would be deployed in phases, stressing the importance of sustainability and long-term impact rather than rushing construction.

His return has renewed excitement among Nigerian fans, with many viewing the visit as a sign of fresh momentum for the project. However, some social media users have continued to call for clearer timelines and visible progress.

Cenat’s visit comes amid increasing interest in Nigeria from global content creators. American streamer IShowSpeed visited Lagos just weeks earlier, attracting large crowds and further spotlighting Nigeria’s growing influence in global digital culture.

While in Lagos, Cenat met with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, toured the school site, donated supplies and took part in activities marking the opening of the Makoko Children School and Orphanage Home. Videos shared online show him interacting with students, engaging with local residents and expressing admiration for the city.

“I love coming here. From the moment I landed, the love is crazy. It’s the first country where I’ve felt a different type of love,” Cenat said during the visit.

The Makoko Children School and Orphanage Home is designed to provide free education for its students. Cenat, who has recently scaled back his streaming activities to focus on launching his fashion brand, VIVET, has said he remains committed to supporting educational initiatives in Nigeria.
