The Katsina State Government has approved N500 million in counterpart funding to procure nutrition commodities for children suffering from acute malnutrition across the state.
The approval was granted by the State Executive Council at its 15th regular meeting, chaired by Governor Dikko Umar Radda at the General Muhammadu Buhari House, Katsina.
Commissioner for Health, Musa Adamu, said the funding would sustain the supply of essential nutrition commodities and strengthen the state’s response to acute malnutrition among children.
The council also approved the procurement of 95,000 bags of assorted grains for distribution to vulnerable and less privileged residents to cushion the impact of economic hardship.
Commissioner for Information and Culture, Salisu Bala Zango, said the government also approved non-food items and cash support for vulnerable groups, including orphans, widows and persons with special needs.
Meanwhile, the council approved the modernisation of markets in Dandume, Daura, Mashi and Jibia across the state’s three senatorial zones.
Special Adviser on Market Development, Mustapha Bala Batsari, said the project would improve commercial infrastructure and contribute to the socio-economic wellbeing of residents.
