Supporters of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), have proposed a joint presidential ticket pairing Peter Obi with Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general election.

The proposal was unveiled in Kano on Friday by Abba Sadauki Gwale, who spoke on behalf of various Kwankwaso support groups. He said the call reflects growing concerns among supporters over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and economic hardship, and the need for a credible political alternative.

Gwale said an Obi-Kwankwaso alliance, irrespective of the political platform it emerges from, would offer Nigerians a chance for meaningful change, noting an apparent shift in public sentiment across the country.

“If the duo gets an opportunity in the next election, Nigeria will be a better place. People are tired of insecurity, hunger and starvation,” he said.

According to him, the proposed partnership is aimed at uniting Obi’s strong base in the South with Kwankwaso’s extensive following in the North, thereby forming a broad national coalition capable of mounting a serious challenge to the ruling party.

Gwale added that the alliance is driven by a shared resolve to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu, while delivering governance focused on the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

He said both Obi and Kwankwaso have consistently promoted policies centred on social welfare, economic reform and good governance, stressing that their message continues to resonate with many Nigerians.

“As 2027 draws closer, Nigerians are watching closely to see how the Obi-Kwankwaso alliance can convert this growing momentum into electoral success,” Gwale said.

Reacting to reports that Kwankwaso had made moves to join the APC, Gwale dismissed the claims as baseless, insisting that the NNPP leader remains guided by the interests of his supporters nationwide.

He also maintained that Kwankwaso continues to enjoy strong grassroots support in Kano and other parts of the country, despite recent political realignments within the state.
