Mercy Johnson-Okojie Appointed Special Adviser on Public Engagement by Edo State Governor

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has named Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.

The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor. According to the statement, Johnson-Okojie will use her public influence, communication skills, and strong grassroots following to enhance citizen engagement with government initiatives and policies.

Ikhilor said the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to drawing on the credibility, experience, and public goodwill of accomplished Nigerians to advance its vision for a more prosperous and united Edo State.

Describing her credentials, the statement highlighted Johnson-Okojie’s nearly two-decade career in Nollywood, during which she has appeared in more than 200 films and received multiple awards and nominations, including recognition at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

Beyond her entertainment career, the governor’s office noted her philanthropic efforts through the Mercy Johnson-Okojie Foundation, which focuses on women’s empowerment, child welfare, education support, and healthcare outreach. The statement added that she has consistently used her platform to promote civic responsibility and community development.

Officials expressed confidence that her experience in advocacy and public communication will strengthen interactions between the state government and residents.
