Nepal Flood Kills Over 470, About 1,200 Still Missing

More than 470 people have died following devastating flash floods and landslides in Nepal’s border region with China, while nearly 1,200 others remain missing, according to authorities.

About 700 foreign tourists are reportedly among those unaccounted for as rescue teams continue searching for survivors in areas severely affected by the disaster.

Helicopters have been deployed to reach communities cut off by the floods, delivering tents, food and other emergency supplies to stranded residents. The flooding and landslides have also destroyed roads, buildings and other infrastructure, making access to affected areas increasingly difficult.

The border region has suffered some of the worst damage, with debris and damaged roads hampering ground rescue operations. Emergency teams are working to locate missing people and assess the full extent of the destruction.

Amid the devastation, some survivors have been rescued after clinging to trees and using other means to escape the rapidly rising floodwaters.

Authorities are expected to continue search and rescue operations as emergency teams work to reach isolated communities and determine the fate of those still missing.
