Nigerian Military Denies Role In Jos North Attack, Says Troops Acted Swiftly

The Nigerian military has rejected allegations linking its personnel to the recent terror attack in Rukuba Community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the claims as false and misleading.

The accusations, which circulated on social media and were attributed to a local youth leader, alleged that troops aided the perpetrators of the Palm Sunday attack. However, the military, under Operation Enduring Peace, dismissed the claims, insisting they do not reflect what actually occurred.

In a statement, the Joint Task Force (JTF) said it responded to the allegations to clarify the situation and reassure the public amid the ongoing grief in the community.

According to the JTF’s Media Information Officer, Chinonso Oteh, troops acted promptly after receiving a distress call and were deployed to the scene despite the distance from their base. He noted that the attackers had fled before their arrival, but personnel worked to prevent further violence and immediately launched a pursuit operation.

The military said four gun trucks were deployed during the response, adding that operations were carried out professionally and in line with standard procedures, a position it said was supported by eyewitness accounts and other security agencies.

It further stated that investigations into the allegations found no evidence of wrongdoing by its personnel, warning that such claims could damage troop morale and weaken trust between security forces and local communities.

The military urged the public to rely on verified information and disregard unsubstantiated reports, while assuring that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
