The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following reports that popular Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has died at the age of 40.
Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues and close associates, with several actors expressing shock and sadness over the development.
Among those who reacted were actress Funke Akindele, actor Bolanle Ninalowo, actress Kate Henshaw, Omoni Oboli, AY Comedian and actor Godwin Nnadiekwe, who shared emotional messages on social media on Tuesday.
In a post on her Instagram story, Funke Akindele mourned the late actor and reflected on their friendship.“Hmmmmmm. Rest in peace, Alex. I tried to reach out to see you one more time, but I guess you knew best. May your kind soul rest in peace, Alex. ‘Ore mi’ like you fondly called me, I will always remember and cherish the good times we shared together,” she wrote.
Omoni Oboli in her tribute wrote “I’m so upset! Who will help me fight death? This is too much! How are we supposed to move on? How do we say goodbye? I’m devastated. My bestie! Why? We had a plan! Where do I start from?”
Alex Ekubo was regarded as one of Nollywood’s most recognised actors, known for starring in romantic dramas, comedy films and television productions that earned him a large fan base across Nigeria and beyond.
