Norway Demands Infantino’s Resignation As Mexico, Argentina Back FIFA Chief

Norway’s football federation has called for FIFA President Gianni Infantino to resign, saying it no longer has confidence in his leadership.

Norwegian Football Federation president Lise Klaveness made the call after a meeting on Thursday, saying Infantino’s time as FIFA president “should be over.”

The demand comes amid growing criticism of Infantino following FIFA’s decision to abandon a controversial plan to attract private investment into FIFA Forward Enterprise, a proposed commercial subsidiary that would have managed rights linked to FIFA competitions, including the World Cup.

UEFA has also renewed its criticism of Infantino and said its threat to boycott FIFA competitions remains in place despite the withdrawal of the investment plan.

The English Football Association has similarly withdrawn its support for Infantino’s bid for re-election in March 2027.

However, Infantino continues to receive support from several football bodies. Mexico’s football federation said it backs his leadership and his efforts to develop football across FIFA’s 211 member associations.

Argentina’s football association also praised Infantino’s decade in charge, crediting him with improving FIFA’s governance and administration.

South American football governing body CONMEBOL said it would not support any attempt to remove Infantino before the next election, while the Confederation of African Football (CAF) expressed its “unanimous support” for the FIFA president.

The opposing positions highlight the growing divisions within world football as Infantino faces increasing scrutiny over FIFA’s leadership, the failed private investment proposal and other controversial decisions made during his tenure.
