
Tributes have poured in from political leaders, government officials, and institutions following the tragic death of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was killed during a violent robbery in Abuja on September 29.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar described the news as heartbreaking, extending condolences to Maduagwu’s family, friends, and colleagues. “It is my prayer that they find comfort in this painful loss at such a young age,” he said.
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara called Maduagwu “one of the shining stars that our dear state bequeathed to Nigeria and the world,” praising her humility, brilliance, and passion for justice. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also expressed shock, describing her as a fulfilled professional who made a lasting impact in the media industry.
Minister of Works David Umahi demanded justice, urging authorities to ensure that those responsible are brought to trial. Business leader Tony Elumelu described the death as “a painful experience, not only for her family but also for the entire organisation.”
Condolence messages also came from Rivers State elders, UN Women Nigeria, and former Attorney-General of the Federation Michael Aondoakaa, who remembered Maduagwu as a valued journalist whose professionalism and dedication touched many lives.
Maduagwu, aged 29, was widely admired as both a lawyer and broadcaster. Colleagues and admirers say her voice for truth and justice embodied excellence and promise, a career tragically cut short.
