Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso Dumps NNPP, Set To Join ADC on Monday

Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is set to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in a move that signals shifting political alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to a statement by the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Kwankwaso will formally register with the ADC on Monday at his residence in Kano, marking the completion of arrangements for his exit from the NNPP.

Supporters of the movement have been directed to begin registration with the party across their respective wards and local government areas, as part of efforts to strengthen the ADC’s structure nationwide. The move, the group said, reflects a commitment to democratic values, inclusive governance, and national development.

The development comes amid increasing opposition consultations, including a recent meeting between Kwankwaso and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in Abuja. Atiku described the meeting as a courtesy visit, noting that discussions focused on the state of the nation.

Kwankwaso’s defection follows a series of high-profile engagements with opposition figures, including Peter Obi, Seyi Makinde, and Seriake Dickson, who recently visited him in Kano during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

The latest moves are widely seen as part of broader efforts to build a united opposition front capable of challenging the ruling party in the next election cycle.
