Ronaldo Makes World Cup History As First Player To Score In Six Editions

Cristiano Ronaldo has added another milestone to his remarkable career after becoming the first player in football history to score in six different FIFA World Cup tournaments.

The Portugal captain achieved the feat during his side’s Group K clash against Uzbekistan, scoring twice to inspire a crucial victory and further strengthen his legacy as one of the sport’s greatest players.

Ronaldo opened the scoring after connecting with a cross from João Cancelo to net his ninth World Cup goal. He later grabbed his second of the match with a clinical finish on the end of a swift counter-attack, celebrating with his trademark “Siu!” in front of jubilant Portuguese fans.

The historic achievement came just a day after Lionel Messi became the FIFA World Cup’s all-time leading goalscorer, adding another chapter to the long-running rivalry between two of football’s most celebrated figures.

With his brace against Uzbekistan, Ronaldo also surpassed Portuguese icon Eusébio to become Portugal’s highest goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history.

Reacting after the match, the 41-year-old expressed delight at the achievement but emphasised that Portugal’s success at the tournament remains his main priority.

“I’m very happy. But for me, the most important thing is our work and the confidence we showed. The team performed really well and improved a lot,” Ronaldo said.

He added that while individual records are rewarding, helping Portugal achieve its objectives remains his primary focus.

“Obviously, speaking personally, records are always nice, but my goal is always to help the national team achieve its objectives.”

Now competing in his sixth World Cup, Ronaldo continues to redefine longevity at the highest level of the game and will aim to extend his record when Portugal face Colombia in their final group-stage fixture.
