Nigeria’s Super Eagles produced a dominant display in Marrakech on Saturday, defeating Algeria 2–0 in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 quarter-final to secure a semi-final meeting with tournament hosts Morocco.
The Super Eagles controlled the opening half, enjoying the bulk of possession and creating several scoring opportunities, including an effort that was dramatically cleared off the line. However, their breakthrough came shortly after the restart.
Just two minutes into the second half, Victor Osimhen opened the scoring in the 47th minute, rising above the Algerian defence to power home a well-delivered cross from Bruno Onyemaechi, igniting celebrations inside the Marrakesh Stadium.
Nigeria doubled their lead ten minutes later, with Osimhen again instrumental. The striker showed great awareness to lay the ball off for Akor Adams, who calmly finished into an empty net in the 57th minute.
Algeria attempted to respond with a series of substitutions and tactical adjustments but found it difficult to break down a disciplined Nigerian defence that remained organised and composed throughout the match.
The victory brought Algeria’s unbeaten run in the competition to an end and keeps Nigeria firmly on course for a potential AFCON title, as they now turn their attention to a high-stakes semi-final encounter with Morocco.
