Super Eagles defeat Iran in Friendly Match

Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Iran in an international friendly, continuing their resurgence after missing out on qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

The match, which marked the team’s first appearance since finishing third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), saw the Eagles deliver a composed performance despite the absence of key players Victor Osimhen and Calvin Bassey due to injury.

Nigeria took an early lead just six minutes into the game, with Moses Simon finishing calmly after beating his marker. The Eagles doubled their advantage shortly after the restart, as Ademola Lookman set up Adams with a precise pass, allowing him to slot the ball past the goalkeeper.

Iran responded with a goal to reduce the deficit but struggled to match Nigeria’s tempo and control for most of the game.

Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye returned to the starting line-up, while Igoh Ogbu filled in defensively, helping maintain the team’s structure and discipline throughout the match.

Nigeria held on to secure the win and will now turn attention to their final fixture against Jordan on Tuesday, as preparations continue to build momentum for upcoming competitions.
