Tinubu Calls For Leadership Focused On Nigeria’s Public Good

President Bola Tinubu has called for patriotic leadership in Nigeria, urging public officials and citizens to prioritise national development and public service over personal interests and self-aggrandisement.

Tinubu made the call in a message delivered by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, at a thanksgiving service held at St. Monica Cathedral of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria, Jimeta, Yola, Adamawa State, to mark the 70th birthday of former SGF, Boss Mustapha.

The President said Nigeria needed leaders committed to serving the nation and putting the public good above personal ambitions.

“Nigeria needs men and women who value what transcends personal interest, but rather a devotion to public service,” Tinubu said.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who attended the event, described Mustapha as a model of integrity in public service and called for greater unity among political leaders in the Middle Belt.

As part of his 70th birthday celebrations, Mustapha donated a library complex to Lutheran University Nigeria in Demsa, Adamawa State. The facility, named the Wesley Mustapha Library Complex, was dedicated in honour of his late father, a teacher who later became a headmaster.

Speaking at the handover, Mustapha urged Nigerian youths not to allow their backgrounds to limit their ambitions, saying his journey from being the son of a classroom teacher to serving as SGF showed that humble beginnings could be a foundation for success.

“Do not allow your background to define your life – use it as a stepping stone,” Mustapha told the younger generation.

He said the project was motivated by a desire to improve the lives of future generations and contribute to education in the region.

The Archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria, Most Rev. Musa Panti Filibus, commended the former SGF for the initiative, while Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri described the library as a monument of knowledge that would benefit generations of scholars.
