Tinubu Commends Super Eagles After AFCON Bronze Medal Victory

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles for finishing third at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, applauding the team’s resilience and determination.

Nigeria claimed the bronze medal on Saturday after defeating Egypt 4–2 on penalties, following a goalless draw at the end of regulation time. The victory saw the Super Eagles overcome the seven-time African champions to end the tournament on a high note.

In a statement released by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the players for their strong response to the disappointment of their semi-final loss to host nation Morocco.

Tinubu said the team’s ability to recover from that setback and secure a podium finish reflected the enduring Nigerian spirit and a refusal to be discouraged by adversity.

“Despite their impressive run in the tournament, the Super Eagles suffered a painful semi-final defeat to Morocco on penalties last Wednesday, which dashed hopes of reaching the final,” the President said.

“However, the players were not discouraged. They showed resilience and determination, and their efforts have now been rewarded.”

The President added that Nigerians would take pride in seeing the team receive their bronze medals in Rabat, describing the achievement as one worth celebrating.

“This bronze medal surely feels as good as gold,” Tinubu said.
