Trump Bans CNN, MS NOW, Politico From White House

US President Donald Trump has announced a ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House, accusing the outlets of publishing what he described as “fake news” about his administration.

Trump announced the decision on Truth Social on Friday, saying the media organisations should not be allowed to “write or report FICTION and LIES” while covering the president and his administration. He also warned that other media outlets could face similar restrictions.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said the decision was based on what he described as a pattern of coverage over several years rather than a specific report.

The White House began enforcing the ban on Saturday, with MS NOW journalists denied access to the grounds and their press credentials disabled.

CNN and Politico also said they would defend their rights and continue covering the administration.CNN said it stood behind its White House journalists, arguing that the US Constitution protects their right to report without government interference.

Politico said it would “continue to fairly report on this White House and future ones” and vowed to defend its First Amendment rights.

MS NOW also said it would take steps to defend its journalists and the role of independent journalism.

Trump has also suggested that The New York Times and The Washington Post could face similar restrictions, although no additional bans had been announced as of Saturday.

The scope and legal basis of the restrictions remain contested. Press freedom advocates and legal experts have argued that excluding news organisations because of their coverage could raise First Amendment concerns, while the administration has maintained that it has authority over access to the White House.

The move is the latest escalation in Trump’s long-running disputes with major US news organisations over their coverage of his administration.
