Trump Responds to Joe Kent Resignation, Labels Ex-Counterterrorism Chief ‘Weak on Security’

U.S. President Donald Trump has criticised former counterterrorism chief Joe Kent following his resignation over the administration’s military action against Iran, dismissing his position and questioning his judgment on national security matters.

Kent, who stepped down as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, had opposed the government’s handling of the Iran conflict, arguing that Tehran did not pose an immediate threat to the United States and warning against further escalation.

Responding to the resignation, Trump defended the decision to take military action and downplayed Kent’s concerns, suggesting that his departure was justified.

“I always thought he was weak on security… when I read his statement, I realised it’s a good thing he’s out,” the president said, criticising Kent’s assessment that Iran was not a significant threat.

The exchange highlights growing tensions within the administration over the rationale and direction of U.S. involvement in the conflict with Iran, as debates continue over the broader security and geopolitical implications of the war.
