Trump Threatens Iran With Military Action After Assassination Chants At Khamenei’s Funeral

US President Donald Trump has warned Iran of overwhelming military retaliation after mourners at the funeral of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei reportedly called for his assassination, escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran amid ongoing disputes over the Strait of Hormuz.

The warning comes as the United States presses Iran to guarantee safe passage for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route. Tehran has refused, insisting it retains control over the strategic waterway and should have the authority to regulate and charge vessels using it.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the United States had deployed substantial military assets targeting Iran, warning of severe consequences if Tehran acted on threats against the US.

“A thousand missiles are locked and loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands more ready to follow immediately should the Iranian Government act on its threat,” Trump wrote.

The US president said his comments were prompted by reports that mourners at Khamenei’s funeral carried banners calling for the deaths of both Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The latest exchange follows heightened military tensions between the two countries. The United States recently launched airstrikes on Iranian targets after accusing Tehran of attacking three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran later responded with strikes targeting Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait and Qatar.

Trump also warned that the US military would “completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran,” while reiterating his hardline stance against the Iranian government.

Meanwhile, senior US officials said diplomatic efforts remained ongoing but stressed that Tehran had only a limited opportunity to reach a new agreement with Washington.

According to the officials, Iran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz, end attacks on commercial shipping and relinquish its stockpile of highly enriched uranium before any new nuclear agreement can be finalised.
