United States President Donald Trump has warned that Washington could restart military strikes on Iran if Tehran fails to meet expectations tied to ongoing negotiations over a potential agreement.
Speaking on the situation, Trump said any perceived misconduct by Iran could trigger a renewed response. “If they misbehave, if they do something bad… it’s a possibility,” he stated, adding that he had been briefed on the outline of a proposed deal but was awaiting full details.
The warning comes as Iranian officials, through intermediaries, tabled a phased proposal that separates immediate issues such as maritime access and sanctions, from more complex nuclear negotiations to be addressed later.
According to details from Tehran, the proposal includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, easing US-imposed restrictions on Iran, and addressing sanctions relief, frozen assets, and the presence of American forces in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor, has faced months of disruption, significantly affecting oil shipments and international shipping routes.
Despite the proposal, Trump signalled dissatisfaction with its current terms, suggesting Iran had not borne sufficient consequences for its actions. He reiterated that any eventual agreement must ensure Iran does not develop nuclear weapons.
Although the United States and Israel have paused bombing operations in recent weeks, no formal resolution has been reached, leaving tensions in the region unresolved as negotiations continue.
