United States Congressman Riley Moore has commended President Bola Tinubu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu for what he described as concrete steps taken by the Nigerian government to improve security and address concerns over attacks on Christian communities.
Nigeria had come under intense scrutiny in the US after Moore led a campaign that resulted in former President Donald Trump designating the country as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) over alleged “Christian genocide,” with threats of possible military action against identified perpetrators.
However, recent comments by Moore suggest a shift in Washington’s position as Nigeria intensifies security reforms and collaborative efforts with the US.
In a post on X, the congressman said his delegation had a “productive and positive” meeting with Ribadu, noting that the discussions covered practical strategies to enhance national security and combat terrorism, especially in the northeast and Middle Belt regions.
According to him, the measures outlined, if fully implemented, could “stop the killing of Christians,” a matter he described as a key concern for both himself and President Joe Biden.
Moore also praised President Tinubu for the recent rescue of 100 abducted Catholic schoolchildren, calling it a “positive demonstration of the government’s increasing response to the security situation” and a sign of commitment to Tinubu’s emergency security directives.
He further expressed optimism about the newly established Nigeria–US joint task force, describing it as a step toward a stronger cooperative security framework.
“There is much work still to be done, but things are moving in the right direction,” Moore wrote. “It is clear that there is an openness and willingness on the part of the Nigerian government to work with the United States to tackle these critical issues.”
He added: “Peace be with you all. God bless the great people of Nigeria.”
