Wike Expresses Confidence In Tinubu’s Chances Of Winning FCT In 2027

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure victory in the FCT during the 2027 presidential election.

Wike spoke on Tuesday in Wasa while inspecting projects scheduled for inauguration as part of activities marking the president’s third anniversary in office.

According to the minister, ongoing infrastructure projects and growing support for the administration across satellite towns have changed the political mood within the territory.

“And with what I have seen, I believe the president will not only get the required percentage in the FCT, but will also win comfortably,” Wike said.

His comments contrast with the outcome of the 2023 presidential election where Tinubu secured 18.99 per cent of votes cast in the FCT, although he met the constitutional requirement in 29 states nationwide before his victory was affirmed by the Supreme Court.

Wike pointed to the recent Area Council elections in Abuja, where the ruling All Progressives Congress won five out of six councils, as a sign of shifting political support in favour of the president ahead of 2027.

The FCT minister argued that residents were beginning to see direct impact from government projects beyond the city centre, especially in rural communities and satellite towns.

“What reason would people have not to vote for Mr President now? How many governments before now have been able to impact the satellite towns the way this administration is doing?” he asked.

He added that previous governments focused mainly on the city centre, while the current administration had expanded development projects to rural areas through road and water infrastructure.

“This is the first time people are seeing development extend beyond the city centre into the satellite towns,” he said.

Wike also referenced the commissioning of the A2-Pai Road in Kwali, describing it as a landmark moment for rural communities in the FCT.

“Within these two years in office, we went to Kwali where we commissioned the A2 to Pai Road. That was the first time a President visited such a rural area for a commissioning,” he stated.

According to him, residents are more concerned about governance that improves living conditions, including better roads, electricity and access to basic infrastructure.

“That is governance in action. That is the real test-positive impact on the lives of the people,” Wike added.
