The Institute of Information Technology (ITI) and Google Global have signed a cooperation agreement to launch a new program to train 30,000 software experts on artificial intelligence (AI) in Egypt. The cooperation agreement was signed by ITI chief Heba Salih and Matt Britten, president of Google for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. The signatures took place via video conference, and were watched by Communications and Information Technology Minister Amal Talat.

The program, which is entitled “Artificial Intelligence Program and Building Machine Learning Capabilities”, aims to engage students and students of software engineering and computer science majors on AI tools and processes. This is in addition to machine learning from natural language processing, computer vision and predictive analysis.

The program aims to support computer engineers and software developers of all levels in Egypt, with the necessary skills to meet the current challenges using machine learning techniques.

Trainees will also be able to pass an integrated program of courses and practical tests offered by the QuickLabs online training platform, over a period of 18 months. It will be led by eminent experts from Google and other key partners.

The agreement includes plans to operate the first level, which aims to train 25,000 trainees on AI applications. It is provided that the training work will be completed in the second phase, comprising both the second and third levels, which, at its launch, will target 3,000 trainees per level. This will bring the total number of beneficiaries to over 30,000 beneficiaries.

Talat said the collaboration with the global company Google is in addition to the training programs provided by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and its partners to build the capacities of young people.

The agreement was signed to “post COVID-19, and the adoption of modern technologies for economic take-off” virtual seminar organized by Google.

He expressed his appreciation for Google’s efforts, and said that they are eager to cater to young graduates’ examples of the initiative after completing their training.

The seminar, initiated by a global company to support small businesses and individuals in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, was organized as part of “Growing Stronger with Google” initiative activities.

The virtual seminar was attended by: Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation; Deputy Minister of Tourism Ghara Shalaby; US Ambassador to Egypt Jonathan Cohen; Hisham al-Nazar, director of Google in Egypt; And several representatives of the Egyptian Embassy in Egypt and the American Embassy in Egypt.
